  1. Very few kids actually like rice cakes, I don't know the ages of the kids, but I would think twice about the grapes too, they are very chokeable, everything else sounds great.

  2. I love that you're trying to think of HEALTHY snacks to take.  As someone else already wrote, though, the peanut butter might be iffy due to allergy risk.  You could double-check with the teacher on that one first.

My kids LOVE rice cakes, and have since the first time they tried them.  I also sent applesauce cups and plastic spoons or individual raisin boxes when my son was in K.

Big kudos to you for trying to provide the good stuff!

  3. I personally do not like the idea of rice cakes for children you are not all too familiar with. What about Jello with fruit in it? You can make a bowl of it for them.

  4. Give them something to spread on the rice cakes such as cream cheese. Some kids may find them dry otherwise.

  5. I am not sure that rice cakes or granola provide adequate nutrition for kids that young.  Little kids need a little extra fat and calories.  This is not to say they should be eating processed food loaded with fat/trans-fat and calories but I think there is a happier medium.  Your Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday ideas sound fantastic!

  6. I think it's a great idea.     My 5 year old loves rice cakes.    Especially the mini size w/ caramel flavor.

I would check with the teacher about the peanut butter and the granola just to see if any kids in the class have nut allergies which can be severe.

You might try some fat free caramel dip for the apples.     kind of messy, though.

I found with my son's kindergarten class, some parents brought junk--which they would eat.    I sent healthy snacks which they would eat.    If given the choice (both items on the plate-like during a party) the majority of the kids left the cookies and ate the caramel dip + apples; the fresh pineapple chunks; the frozen grapes.     It's sad, but most kids are fed junk and like the healthy stuff if they have the choice and get to taste it.    My 5 year old wouldn't dream of touching a french fry from home or fast food restaurant---and I am sooo happy.    I've offered them (so he's not "deprived" of anything) and he does not like them.   Yeah!

  7. It is hard to tell if the kids will like the rice cakes, and granola is iffy too.  How about popcorn?  As long as it is light on butter, it is a pretty healthy snack and kids go crazy for it.

  8. I think so! Even if they have not had them before it is something they are likely to try. I would watch the peanut butter though every school around here practically has a ban on it because of allergies, but if the teacher says its ok, it is certiainly healthy. Its so nice to hear some parents still care about bringing healthy snacks for the children! So many people bring sugar coated snacks and cupcakes. Good for you!

  9. sounds good, but maybe something else to go with grapes cause cheese doesn't really go with grapes. maybe cut up strawberries, carrots, or another type of fruit

  10. I would re-think the rice cakes. What about celery and peanut butter or cheese and crackers? The kids might think that you are trying to feed them cardboard.

    Good luck!

  11. Healthy snacks are great! They may actually like the rice cakes, you never know.

  12. ooh gross!! have you been in a class of 5 y/o lately? I am in my son's P1 class all the time, and they love apples, grapes, and cheese, but, corn muffins, rice cakes and granola?? What are you thinking?? Give em a break !! They are kids, give me something at least 1 time that week they enjoy!! Make em some pep and cheese or ham and  cheese crackers, or even mini sandwiches, take em some home made oatmeal choc chip cookies. Fruit snacks!! Anything but rice cakes!!  Let em be kids!!! They aren't 30 and on a low carb diet!!

  13. Their ok, I would try stuff a little bit softer. But you can try :-)

  14. the best snack includes a sugar and a protein -like the Wed & Mon snacks!

  15. goldfish...like the pepperidge farm ones.all kids love them and they have whole grain ones.kids wont like rice cakes

  16. Some kids do like them but others don't just like everything else.  I would say they would be ok.  Now with the peanutbutter make sure no kids are allergic.  But other than that sounds like a good list

  17. I'm not sure 5 year olds are going to eat granola unless maybe it's the chewy granola bars.  Same with rice cakes, unless they are used to them at home.

I'd be careful about the peanut butter issue. some schools have a peanut free policy that is school wide. You don't want problems is someone in the class is allergic.

  18. I like them but try and contact parents and just make sure they make whole grain  gold fish that are really good and all the kids I babysit for love them!

  19. Sounds fine to me but I would be careful about bringing in the peanut butter and granola since a lot of kids have allergies and the school may not allow it.  Check with them first.

  20. What are rice cakes? Whatever they are they don't sound good. Take in soda and potato chips.
