Question:

Are these good fundraising ideas?

I'm participating in a AFSP (American Foundation for Suicide Prevention) walk called Out of the Darkness in October. I have a few ideas on how to raise money but I would like your opinions or if you have any other ideas for me; that would be great also!

My ideas:

- "Be a Lifesaver" -- sell Lifesaver candies for merely a quarter.. kinda stupid I know, but the names makes sense with the cause; or I could just give out Lifesaver candies for each person who donates

- I have one of those Button Makers, so I was going to make pins and sell them for a dollar maybe? Anyways, I dont know what to put on the pin... I was thinking maybe "AFSP Bringing Suicide Out of the Darkness." or simply "I helped save lives" ... Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!

- Bake sale

- Sell yellow ribbons (the color is designated for suicide prevention) for a dollar

Do you think these are good ideas? Do you have any other suggestions?

Thanks

  1. "Lets come out of the Dark".. or "Comming out of the Dark".. black buttons with Neon Yellow writing on it..

Have a Bike a thon and have the group go bike riding on a 5 mile run.. Could have them donate $10.00 to whomever wished to go on the Bike ride take a lunch with and have a picnic somewhere cool.

  2. cute ideas-what about a Carnival Cruise fundraiser? What a FUN way to celebrate life!! My company puts them all together and Carnival provides the marketing materials.

I'd love to help-we don't really have any groups like that here and my best friend committed suicide the week of Christmas last year.

  3. You can have a yard sale (or a virtual yard sale on ebay).  Raffling off gas cards is popular now.

  4. I like the Lifesaver candy idea! It's really cute!

  5. One thing i did when i participated in fund raisers were to create letters about the fundraiser and its purpose.  The i would hand those out a local stores and ask for any donations possible.  Some were monetary but sometimes you could get different things.  At the end we took the money and donated that on behalf of the stores, but then we took the items given to us, like sweaters and mugs, and candy, and just put it into a huge basket.  The we would give a ticket to everyone who donated money, and at the end pick a ticket and then call the winner at the phone number the gave us (you can get emails also).  It was a great way to make money and the only thing i spent money on was the tickets.  Good Luck.
