Are these good times for the 1 and 2 mile?

Today I pr'ed in both races and I am wondering..

I am a 5'6, 120lb freshman boy(15 years old) and I ran the mile first at 5:36(I don't think it was my best cuz I led the pack for the 2nd and 3rd lap, so by the 4th I burned out)

Then I ran the 2 mile at a 12:21

I kicked at the end though....

This is my first season running, I've been running since March, my first Pr's were, 6:32 for the 1 mile and 13:26 for the 2 mile.... So I've cut down nearly a minute for both... but... my two mile time, shouldn't it have been cut 2mins?? or at least 1.5mins?

I don't know but yes, please are my times good for a first season freshman runner? and how could I improve my times(especially my two mile time)...

my training schedule is:

Mon: Intervals(800, 400, 400, etc...) and then a mile run

Tue: 3-4 mile run

Wed: Intervals or uphills

Thurs: 3-4 mile run

Fri: Intervals or uphills with a complimentary mile run afterwards...

I used to train on Weekends but then I stopped, Should I?

  1. theyre not horrible since its your first year but theyre not the greatest...the girls on my team run those times but its ur first year so ur alright. ur training scedule sounds good except you might want to up your long runs...try 5-8 miles to start. train hard sat. but break sunday..ur body needs time to rest. good luck!

  2. Your 1 mile is alright, at my school ( located inSo-Cal)most freshmen get under 5:30, I  would aim for that if I were you, if you want to letter or make Varsity, you shoul hit 4:50 or lower (lettering time for my school is 4:51).  Your 2 mile isn't too hot, with your mile time, you should be clocking in just under 12:00.  Train hard, don't slack off in your training runs.  Also, you should throw in some hill training with your normal schedule, I find the extra work helps a lot, and running on even ground seems realtively easy.

  3. well.... i would say thats a good time, seeing as the fastest mile ever run by a man is 3:43.13. and the fastest 2 mile is 7:58.61. your doing fine. keep up the good work!all you need to work on is your endurence. everytime you practice. give yourself a time you have to beat. and everytime go down by 1 second. or 5 even.

  4. your 1 mile time is pretty solid for your first mile but set a goal of getting under 5 by the end of the season. which is soon so kinda hard and your 2 mile? get that down to 10 low

  5. yup those are average for ur grade  you dont want to be average though

  6. You're not going to get any faster if you quit, so I would say yes you should keep trying.

  7. Not half bad.  Keep trying and you might be able to beat your times.  Those are great though.

  8. That is really good, for your 2 mile you have a 6 minute per mile pace so far and your mile is good. Remember, practice makes perfect!

  9. Record mile is 3:43.13

    Record for women is 4:12.56

2 mile isn't recognized except in US highschools. The olympic event is the 3000 meter run, about 200 meters short of 2 miles.

    Record 3000 meter is 7:20.67

Best training for middle distance is sprints, particularly wind sprints. We already know you can run forever. What you need is some speed!

Friday is a day for a long run. The rest of the week is anaerobic sprinting. You might want to throw in a day of swimming every week to get the rest of the body in tune.

Keep the weekends for recovery days.

I used to run middle distance in high shool and college.
