Per my boss's request, i booked three rooms at the Intercontinental hotel in San Francisco in the "Superior Level" (floors 14 through 24). They were priced pretty fairly and were only available under advanced purchase. this means that your rooms cannot be upgraded nor can you reservation be canceled for a full refund. My main concern is that the rooms were priced so fairly because they are poor quality. Is this a valid concern? Can anyone help me?

  1. Yeah, you're not gonna get poor quality rooms in either hotel, especially at the Mark Hopkins above floor 14. It's a tall hotel on top of the steep hill, so the view should be breathtaking.

Not as familiar with the new Intercontinantal downtown, but being a luxury brand and a new building, any room there would be the highest quality. (Many hotels in San Francisco don't always have the best quality rooms because of the age of the buildings. Watch out for anything "historical" if you are choosy about your plumbing and air conditioning.)

If a hotel is not sold out, you can always upgrade for an additional charge, even for pre-paid rooms. This is common for internet(hotels.com, etc.) bookings. The agent checking your boss in should be happy to provide this, since it makes him/her look good.

  2. There are 2 Intercontinental Hotels in SF.  One is a brand new high rise on Howard Street by the Moscone Center, and its gorgeous.  The other is the Intercontinental Mark Hopkins at the top of Nob Hill, which is one of the most famous hotels in the world, and a little old, but certainly 5-star.  I think you'll be happy at either one.
