I got these from a website. I want to give my cats a natural flea dip but will these work, and are they safe for cats? I want to get rid of the fleas on them before I fumigate the apartment. I will also be using Advantage after wards.

Natural Repellents and Dips:

Use a mixture of Avon Skin-So-Soft, vinegar, and eucalyptus oil as a bug repellent for humans and animals.

Natural flea and tick dip:

2 cups, packed, of fresh rosemary and/or peppermint

4 cups boiling water

16 cups warm water

Pour the just boiled water over the fresh herbs and let steep, covered, for 30 minutes. Strain and add the liquid to the 16 cups of warm water and then saturate the animal. Let it air dry.

Flea Spray:

chamomile

valerian

licorice

witch hazel

Prepare an infusion using one tea bag of each herb, and when it's cold, mix it with witch hazel.

  1. Don't know if any of that stuff works or not, but it should produce some pretty sweet smelling cats.

  2. I've had cats all of my life and this works:

    1.  Get a flea bomb.  Depending on how large your place is, you may need more than one.  You'll have to leave the house for most of the day AND your cat too. Don't leave any pet or even food uncovered.  It's toxic but it does kill the fleas.  When you re-enter the house, open all of the windows to circulate the air and to let out the fumes.  Vacuum the house well.

    2.  To get the fleas off of your cat, get a flea comb.  I sit right next to the toilet when I brush the cat.  When I get a flea on the comb, I put it right in the toilet and flush it down.  Do this every day until the flea problem is gone.  My cat is highly allergic to Advantage or the other one....?  The flea comb will guarantee no fleas on your cat.

    Good luck!

  3. Fleas hate the smell of citrus, so if you like your apartment to smell like a citrus, well you're lucky.  You can wipe an orange peel on yourself if you want but you can't wipe it on your cat.  There's also lime, lemon and tangerines, etc.  A smell of citrus is much safer then a fume of Raid.

Your cat won't chew on citrus peels due to an extreme bitter taste.

Witch hazel is deadly poisonous btw.

  4. You can buy Capstar and Frontline Plus at drsfostersmith.com . The Capstar will kill all the fleas on your cat almost instantly and the frontline will prevent re-infestation. Use the Capstar right away. It will kill all fleas on your cat with in an hour. It is imperative that you do not skip this. Frontline (or advantage, revolution, promeris, etc.) is only effective if the flea bites the cat. Fleas have a 3 week lifespan and only feed for a few days of those three weeks, so you must use Capstar to kill all live fleas on your cat. After you Capstar add on the Frontline Plus and it will keep fleas off your cat for 30 days. Any eggs that hatch will be killed when they feed by the Frontline. Refrontline every 30 days. No vet visit required and totally safe.

Frontline contains fipronil, which spreads via the body oils killing fleas within 24 hours and ticks within 48 hours. Ticks are generally killed before they bite, decreasing the risk of tick-borne disease transmission. Approved for use on kittens 8 weeks and older.

Frontline Plus also contains (S)-methoprene, an Insect Growth Regulator, which prevents an insect from maturing or reproducing. Approved for use on kittens 8 weeks and older.

You can use FRONTLINE flea and tick control once a month and it's completely waterproof. Provide your cat with the best flea and tick protection, right from the start.

Capstar - Treats flea infestations on pets. Starts killing adult fleas on the pet within 30 minutes. One dose lasts 24 hours. Use when pets are likely to be exposed to fleas. Also may be used prior to surgery, boarding, or grooming. Active ingredient is Nitenpyram, which interferes with the normal nerve transmission of insects, effectively killing them. Not a preventive. For pets over four weeks of age. Package of 6.

  5. I agree with the other post here in that these snake oil remedies might be more harming than helping.  I had serious flea infestation when I first moved into a home with existing occupant and his cat.  What worked for us was a product called revolution.  In addition to my cleaning like an ocd  out patient, this solution somehow keeps the future fleas from reproducing.  I think, costwise, it is about the same as advantage.  This stuff is applied  to the nape, where head meets neck, near spine, once a month.  Fleas really like ankles...at least the ones who used to live here seemed to.

Revolution, (I bought a twelvemonth supply) made the itchy, creepyy crawly critters  go, go go away.

It's maybe not a granola by-product...but it sure works!

No bug bombs or foggers necessary with this stuff, just use your vaccuum cleaner daily.

    good luck!

  6. stronghold spot-on from your vets are the only ones that work, and don't use a flea collar they don't..i've just brought all my cats one only to be told by the vet they don't work.the reason is that the stores who sell them don't have a license to sell certain poisons and chemicals,so the flea collars are only soaked in a repellent..and its true cause when my cat was at the vets friday she still had fleas on her and the collar had been on 2 weeks, now i have to write to the manufactures for a refund.

  7. The only thing I've found to work is Advantage.

  8. i don't think most of those will kill the fleas AND the eggs..

here is a remedy to kill the flea eggs that the fleas lay in your house.

    IF YOUR HOUSE HAS FLEAS….

I have a NATURAL remedy for getting rid of fleas in your house.

Go to the Store and buy some 20 Mule Team BORAX.

Then sprinkle it all over. Carpets, couch, bedding, pillows, pet beds, car, even wood floors. (NOT ON YOUR PET!)

    THEN VACCUME IT UP.

What Boax does is coats the eggs ... The eggs hatch deformed or unable to reproduce.

You will have to do this 2 or 3x about a week apart in order to get all the egg cycles.

FOR YOUR PET. Use the flea killer that is on the market or use a flea comb (this is also a head lice comb) especially for kittens or puppys who are too young to have insecticide put on them.

Kill the fleas that you find on the comb with soap or alcohol
