My girlfriend and I are going to the UK so we decided to go to these places:

London

Birmingham

Smethwick

Manchester

Whitby

Are these good places to visit? How are they like? Where else should we go?

This is our first time so what should we expect?

  1. In London: london eye, london aquarium, british museum, tower bridge, tower of london, big ben and houses of Parliament.

    Lake District

    Bath: roman baths

You should look on the internet for special and famous attractions of those towns and cities for some aren't really that interesting and a bit same-old compared to ones with landmarks and activities to do.

    PS: I live in England

  2. London is obvious ... so much to see and do

Whitby is charming, lovely ancient seaside town with lots of history

is there a reason you want to go to Manchester, Birmingham and Smethwick (Smethwick, why Smethwick?, it's not exactly a tourist hot-spot)

nothing against Manchester or Birmingham, but depends on the reason for your visit to the UK and what sort of things you want to see ... they probably wouldn't figure on my top ten places in the UK (apologies to anyone from Manchester or Birmingham)

  3. they seem pretty good places. You have to go on the London eye and blue water in Kent.Good luck!

  4. How on earth did you put that list together?

Smethiwck!?! - I suppose you must know someone there - it's not exactly a tourist hotspot.  I've never been there, (or heard of it until now) - but according to Wikipedia - its only tourist atraction s the public library!

    Other than that:

In Birmingham you should tour the Cadbury's chocolate factory.

In London you'll be spoilt for choice for things to do, my favourite place is Harrods. More like a shop than a museum, I've never bought anything there but love the presentation of everything.  Also the Science Museum, and Natural History museum are amazing and free.

Whitby is a traditional seaside resort in Yorkshire.

All the places on your list are in England - why don’t you go to Scotland as well? I’m sure you would love Edinburgh, with the castle, royal mile, fudge factory and Scottish parliament - it is a really beautiful city, and maybe you could take a day trip out to Stirling, (William Wallace Memorial Tower, Stirling Castle) or to Loch Katrine where you can take a steam boat trip around the loch.

Another option would be Newcastle - there is really lovely countryside north of the city in Northumbria, Bamburgh and Lindifarne castles right on the coast with spectacular views, in fact my favourite view in the whole UK is the sand dunes at Bamburgh with the castle in the background, and the roman wall that used to separate England and Scotland back in roman times. Plenty to do there.
