Question:

Are these poisonous, What kind of crabs are they? ?

I went to the beach today and we found a few little crabs.

I would like to noe if they are poisonous and can i keep them in a tank with my red eared slider?

  1. To add to what Bonnie said, the crabs are saltwater animals, and won't survive in fresh water.

    The best thing to do would be to put them back where you got them, otherwise they will die fairly quickly.


  2. sorry i don't know what type of crab they are.  but another reason you should not put them with your turtles is that crabs are often intermediate hosts for parasites.  If your turtles eat them they may become ill.  

  3. Hard to tell....if you send a description....size, color, where found, etc. my boyfriend may know, saltwater stuff is his specialty...... ALSO, don't put anything like this with turtles, they'll think they're food and eat them.

  4. Where did you find them geographically?  And, what kind of substrate were they on (mud, sand, rocks, marsh)?

    Marine crabs are generally not venomous, but they do need salty water.  It is difficult to keep marine crabs alive and healthy in home aquarium set ups, so I would suggest returning them.
