Are these private investors legit?

A recent yahoo article included these three websites to go to where they connect private investors to people looking for money. Sounds legit but has anyone ever used any of them and what is your experience?

zopa.com

I've heard of prosper.com, researched them out of interest, but have not dealt with them.  If you have a house, it's cheaper to borrow against that.  If you are getting an education, it's cheaper to get real student loans, and if you are buying a car, it may be cheaper to get a bank loan.

I was wondering if it would be somewhere I would want to put some investment money in, but there is little the lenders can do when the borrowers refuse to pay.
