  1. Recent scientific finding have discovered that autism is a failure of the synapses in the brain making connections in the important areas of communication, language and social development.  It has found that the only therapy that can rectify this is Applied Behavioral Analysis (ABA).  I viewed a DVD just last weekend that showed that with intensive therapy at a early age the outcomes for Autism Spectrum children are improved significantly.  DON'T WAIT.  More specifically, don't let any professional delay diagnosis.  GET ON TO IT NOW. It may seem overwhelming but please trust that it will be more overwhelming and time consuming if left untreated.

  2. Sounds possibly like it, or if not that than something else, could very well be serious, i would take him to the doctors. it is certainly not normal of someone his age.

  3. probably because i know a kid who has autism and he has all of those signs

  4. i am very sorry ma'am but your son has autism

  5. Social skills

Fails to respond to his or her name

    Has poor eye contact

Appears not to hear you at times

    Resists cuddling and holding

    Appears unaware of others' feelings

Seems to prefer playing alone — retreats into his or her "own world"

    Language

Starts talking later than other children

Loses previously acquired ability to say words or sentences

Does not make eye contact when making requests

Speaks with an abnormal tone or rhythm — may use a singsong voice or robot-like speech

Can't start a conversation or keep one going

May repeat words or phrases verbatim, but doesn't understand how to use them

    Behavior

Performs repetitive movements, such as rocking, spinning or hand-flapping

    Develops specific routines or rituals

Becomes disturbed at the slightest change in routines or rituals

    Moves constantly

May be fascinated by parts of an object, such as the spinning wheels of a toy car

May be unusually sensitive to light, sound and touch and yet oblivious to pain

Young children with autism also have a hard time sharing experiences with others. When read to, for example, they're unlikely to point at pictures in the book. This early-developing social skill is crucial to later language and social development.

As they mature, some children with autism become more engaged with others and show less marked disturbances in behavior. Some, usually those with the least severe problems, eventually may lead normal or near-normal lives. Others, however, continue to have great difficulty with language or social skills, and the adolescent years can mean a worsening of behavior problems.

The majority of children with autism are slow to acquire new knowledge or skills and some have signs of lower than normal intelligence. Other children with autism have normal to high intelligence. These children learn quickly yet have trouble communicating, applying what they know in everyday life and adjusting in social situations. An extremely small number of children with autism are "autistic savants" and have exceptional skills in a specific area, such as art, math or music.

  6. If it is autism, I would suggest starting him on a gluten free diet and see if he improves. Parents report symptoms improving or going away when they take gluten out of their children's diet.

  7. Many children today either have autism or symptoms of it.  Thus, what you are describing is not normal.  But, autism is reversible.  Many doctors are ridding it by ridding pathogens and toxins.  Thus, go to Yahoo Groups and ask on there for local doctors that know how to rid it.  My children no longer have autism.

  8. It dose sound similar to Autism..  but with that said it could be other things..  I worked with an autistic child today (about 5 years old)  and he had different smyptoms to what your describing... so i guess the only way to knwo forsure if so let the doctors diagnose him.

  9. could be, my son was very similar and he has apergers which is on the autistic spectrum,he need to see a professional really to find out what the problem is. My son wasn't diagnosed until age of 11 but when he was i understood why he acted so "different" all those years

  10. Hi, Autism isn't always so clear. Some of thees problems could be behavioral, but sound like very much like autism . You can get referral for a specialists from your primary care Dr. I hope this has helped.Good luck God bless.

  11. Could be.

Could just be the terrible twos(they don't always come at two).

I would take him to a doctor and not take the advice of some Internet yahoo.

learn what the signs are here. This child you described needs a medical diagnosis and treatment. Hopefully he is already getting it.

  13. Some of it does seem like signs - such as only being able to say 10 words at 3 and half, not potty trained, doesn't respond to his name, doesn't like to play with others, doesn't like water to touch him (sensory issues?) etc. look here for more information - http://www.nhs.uk/Conditions/Autistic-sp...

I would say one thing, its best to get him checked. I was checked for autism- I ended up having quite a few traits but not enough to be diagnosed, so just because he has some doesn't mean he actually has it. Good luck!

  14. I have a 3 years old.. and most of the stuff you mentioned apply to him.. I took him a year ago to development  evaluation they told he is OK he was advanced with his motor skills but delay in his speech... development is not an exact science.. .. I suggest that you take him to evaluation... it is the best.. detecting things early help you found the answer faster..and many times the symptoms are a result for a different problem.. for example my other 8 year old daughter was diagnose with ADHD.. i didn't give up I took her again to different place and got second opinion and more testing they found out she was dyslectic.. and dislectsia have almost the same symptoms of ADHA...

  15. Autism is not a disease, but a developmental disorder of brain function. People with classical autism show three types of symptoms: impaired social interaction, problems with verbal and nonverbal communication, and unusual or severely limited activities and interests. Symptoms of autism usually appear during the first three years of childhood and continue throughout life. Although there is no cure, appropriate early educational intervention may improve social development and reduce undesirable behaviors. People with autism have a normal life expectancy.

Ask your doctor to be sure...

  16. might be. i suggest getting him checked out, something sounds wrong there, he's not progressing
