If a pick up truck is being used as a commercial vehicle, is it also subject to random DOT inspections like Big Rigs and buses are?

Unless it is transporting hazardous materials, or more than 15 passengers, it is considered "for hire", and not a commercial vehicle.

A commercial motor vehicle is defined as over 26,000 pounds (registered, actual, or designed to carry), unless it is carrying hazardous materials or 15 or more passengers.
