When the wheel is spinning, couldn't the gerbils tail get hit or even chopped by the side bars, as they would be spinning?

Also, if one of my gerbils is on, the other one likes to jump on too. Won't it get hit by the side bars if the other one is going quite fast?

  1. it looks pretty safe my friends rats have 1 just like that

  2. Your other gerbil will probally want to get on tooand the bar will smack it try this wheel i use it for my hamster and she loves it plus its silent and it comes in a arrange of colors http://images.google.ca/imgres?imgurl=ht...

lol its a big link but they work really well and in the pic its on a stand  but it comes with something so it can be in the cage

  3. it's safe for the tails, just not the feet.try bying a comfort wheel, by super pet. one side and the bottom is solid, so it wont get hurt if it jumps on it.

  4. Absolutely NO! It's not the sidebars you have to worry about, it's the metal mesh on the walls of the wheel. Rats, Gerbils, and other rodents with long tails can get the tail caught in the metal mesh. It will cut off (or even pull off) part of their tail.

Sounds insane? It happens. My friend's pet's tail got caught and it wasn't pretty.

    Get a plastic wheel.

    Sidebars are fine.

  5. Hmmm, just to be safe try getting them a plastic wheel instead. With no slits or holes. They also like cardboard to shred through and tight spaces to hide in. But to answer your question, you'd rather be safe than sorry. Good luck on your gerbils and I hope they live a long life.

  6. Yeah they look pretty safe.

  7. i think its fine.but make sure you get two so they don't hurt each other.unless of course he wont go on his own one.but i think its safe looking.
