Question:

Are they fertile?

My lovebirds got out of their cage today and flew away, leaving behind 5 eggs in their nesting box. I put them in warm water and 4 of them sank, one floated. Which are fertile? The floater or the sinkers? And how do I care for them until they hatch? I know how to care for hatchlings, just not the incubation period.

  1. not sure that the floater is bad... it just has an air pocket in it...   you can take a lamp with a 60 watt bulb and place it over the covered eggs. (cotton fluff(or something for rodent cages) works well enough.  keep the lamp at least 12 inches away, the fluff should feel warm to the touch, not hot...  incubation should last from 17 to 21 days...

  2. If you're planning on incubating them, you need to put the eggs in an incubator VERY quickly otherwise, they're just as good as infertile eggs. If you do have an incubator, keep temperature around 100 degrees Fahrenheit and make sure the inside is moist.

  3. IDK about Lovebirds but chicken eggs float when they're fertile just keep them as dry as possible and keep them at about 100 degrees F. (Thats for chicken eggs but they cant be that much different) But look for more information online just to be sure
