Question:

Are they looking for aid in New Orleans/the gulf coast with Gustav approaching?

A few years back I helped with the Katrina fighting (both before it hit and then into the city afterwards).

I'm a lisc. EMT (though not national anymore, just my state), also a former Marine and police officer.

This time around I'm hearing nothing about asking for volunteers to go down. Am I just too far removed from the grapevine? Or are they waiting to see how bad it is before they start asking for aid?

Are any agencies seeking volunteers to send down there?

Basically if someone is sending people down on I want in... at least I'd rather go now and be there then have to come after the fact like with Katrina. God I hope this time around they're getting their players in play before hand and not waiting until after to mobilize outside aid...

(Yes I'm aware it might not be that bad, but that was the same hope with Katrina).

  1. I believe they are so much better prepared now that they haven't had to ask for aid.  After it hits, that may change, so keep your eyes and ears peeled for calls to aid.

But nothing yet.  If you do end up going, take care of yourself and good luck.

  2. There are several groups going down. I work with habitat in N.O. and I know we have been called off, but you guys have been called in for the next week. I dunno where you are, but here is a number you can call to find out some info....sorry I don't have more! http://www.emsnetwork.org/artman2/publis...
