I would like to hire this nice lady to our department. She has worked

in a college for 22 years. We need to find a responsible person.

Waiting to hear back from the references.

Do you believe if someone has worked in a college for 22 years they must be responsible?

  1. I think I would need more details.

  2. Why is she leaving her current employee after 22 years?

    That raised my brow.

    .

  3. I think any one who has worked for the same place for that long, they are a dedicated responsible person... Good choice!

  4. if anyone has worked somewhere that long they are responsible, at least that's what I think

  5. Responsible and dependable are 2 different things. I would wait to hear back on references. Sometimes working in the same place means they are afraid to take chances or make change. But if the person was laid off, then that doesn't matter. If things come back fine I would hire her, if she is qualified to do the job.

  6. She sounds loyal and responsible. I would hire her based on the 22 years at one job.

  7. Well there are several ways to look at it.

One is that she stuck with that job forever because she is loyal and responsible. But on the other end maybe she is not willing to take chances and might not adapt to a new situation. Life is life. But odds are she is fine as she maintained a job for 22 years. She might need a bit of direction and help with the adjusting thing but she is certainly not going to s***w your department.

You said "nice lady". Trust your gut. She seems nice and you will be working with her and that feel inside means all regardless of what her life is about.

    Give her the job.

  8. I think anybody who has held down a job for 22 years must be responsible.

  9. all depends is she able to handel the job ie is she is house keeping and u are asking her to do accounting    but i say ya she should be dependable  and a responsible person

  10. I think you need to wait for the references and go from there...

Believe me, there are A LOT of people who work for a bunch of years at a place who haven't done a single impressive thing! Time allotted is not the same as productive input. (I work with such an example. The woman has been here 23 years and couldn't fake her way through excel...She can barely log on and when she does get a project it takes her forever, not because she is detailed, but because she is slow and slightly unfocused.)

When you do the second interview, pay close attention to what this woman says. If she talks about her co workers personal lives more than she talks about the job she used to do, chances are, her 22 years was one long coffee break!

  11. You're responsible for hiring and you are asking this sort of question? The fact that she held the same job for 22 years says a lot about her.
