How are British builders going to feel when they're laid off and having to fight not just their own countrymen but people from the EU for a limited number of jobs?

  1. only 8% of migrants were from EU, so why aren't you slagging off the other 92% of immigrants?

  2. well now lets see how many imms go home no they'll stay and get benefits because they have worked here no need to go back to a poor country is there, bet they take a wage reduction

  3. Skilled construction worker myself from the north of Ireland, i got paid off in an abhorrent manner i was paid off there and then after they got me to do the dirtiest filthiest job on site.  I was then informed by my agency that they are no longer doing business with the construction firm because of the amount of times they hired me then paid me off again without notice.  I thought it was 5 times in the last two years apparently it was 7 according to my agency boss.  Times are really bad for me at the minute. I don't work for the money alone i work for my self respect.  10 immigrants cannot compare to my level of skill and commitment even as a low paid agency worker i start a job i finish it, i can't throw my tools down and go ofski back to the agency.  I've seen plenty of them do it knowing full well they'll get another start packing shelves in tescos.  Construction is my life its my job its all i know.  Developers made their money now the locals are going to suffer, they not only hired immigrants they also hired people with no right to be on building sites, unskilled layabouts who thought it was easy money they cost me work   They can go back to scratching their balls on the dole I'd rather starve first.  Its all rush rush rush profit profit profit, nobody stopped for a minute to think what the outcome would be.  Well its causing the death of a healthy 36 year old fit man.

  4. Fewer jobs would mean fewer immigrants coming over to get them.

Immigrants come here looking for work.  Most Eastern European countrues now how a shortage of labour.  Many will not risk coming to a country with economic problems and little chance of a job when there are more jobs back home.

Simple market supply and demand forces will apply.

Edit: Link below shows that around half of the immigrants who have come have returned.  Most likely more will follow with the downturn.

  5. Given freedom of movement they can find well paid work in Holland or Germany.  The system works both ways.
