I'm going to Spain this summer, and I was just wondering; on average, are things cheap in Spain? For example, clothing, souveniers, etc?

  1. No not at all. You can get clothing etc at the local mercados ( they have them weekly in cities or towns you visit).. But for example if your planning to come over to Barcelona, its the NYC of Spain.. So its very expensive..

    Hope you enjoy your trip..

  2. nope.  Between the inflation in Spain and the deflation of the US dollar, don't expect things to be "cheap".  Things will cost about the same, if not more than they would here.  If you don't pay a reasonable price for something, you can surely expect it to fall apart quickly.  There are some things that may turn out to be bargains, but things aren't as cheap as they used to pe.

  3. It depends relative to where.  If you're from the UK, then yes, things are cheaper.  If you're from the US, NO, things are pretty expensive, especially in Madrid and other cities.  I think things are cheaper (going out, food) in Sevilla.  Also, in the summer (July, August?) they have rebajas, so lots of sales on clothes and stuff.  So things might be a bit cheaper then, but still, Spain is not a cheap place to go, nowhere in Europe really is now for Americans.

  4. Well,Spain isn´t that cheap anymore.Clothing is more or less the same price, sometimes even more expensive (it all deppends on the type of shop you go to...) Tabacco is still cheaper than Britain, eating out is cheaper as well (Be careful though...tourist areas are far more expensive than the other areas....try looking and compare before you go into a restaurant.More expensive doesn´t mean better quality)

It also deppends on the Spanish region you are visiting.Prices change this way as well.Catalonia is one of the most expensive, although very nice (mountains, beaches and very nice weather). It is said that Andalucia (south) is cheaper.Very nice area too!!! Spain has got a lot of different cultures deppending on the area you go to,and also different languages (you´ll notice it if you go to Catalonia,Basc Country,Valencia or Galicia)

If you want to contact me for farther information,do it please.I can give you hints deppending on the area you´ve chosen.

    All the best!

    Enjoy staying in Spain

  5. I live on the Costa Del Sol but well away from the tourists. In general the cost of living is about 30% cheaper than the UK. It is getting more expensive, but that is due to the influx of Brits and Germans who are moving here.

Souveniers are never cheap irrespective of where you go in the world, but clothing in some areas is cheaper. Eating out is definitely cheaper and a bottle of wine is in many cases over 50% cheaper. As Sue pointed out. The exchange rate from pounds or dollars into euros will determine exactly how much you will save by shopping here.

  6. All in all, it is about 1/3 cheaper in Spain than UK. I usually buy shoes , tops , shorts etc whilst I'm on holiday, toiletries,I take with me. Meals out and take-aways are very good value for money.
