Are those chain e-mails claiming that every person you forward it to a donation will be made to a worthy cause

I just got an e-mail supposedly from a Dr. who is forwarding a peom from a dieing girl and every person I sent it to the Red Cross will donate three cent to her treatment. Are these real?

  1. no one has the capacity to count e-mails. not even Bill Gates.

  2. How would anyone know how many were forwarded? It's not possible.

  3. It is my understanding that at least some chain e-mails are an attempt by spammers to verify e-mail addresses.  I delete any that I get.

  4. The only cause the money usually goes to is the sender, and that's never a worthy one.
