Question:

Are those red plastic party cups recycleable?

I heard somewhere that the cups are not recyclable, or if they are then they are the most difficult type to recycle. So can someone verify or deny this?

Also, can anyone provide any greener alternatives? (Without each person bringing their own cup, that is)

Thanks.

  1. i agree with the answer, wash em, or go to the dollar store buy some cheap ones you get 6 for a buck and you can always have them for a next party too.

buy a more greener alternative, they make most all plastic cups with the recycling capability but at the same time buying cheap ones to keep reusing will work great too

  2. Each area has it's own rules. That's why there is a number in the triangle. Call you local Cooperative Extension agency and they can tell you.

Just  wash the ones you have til they fall apart, and then buy the multi-packs at the dollar store and use them. good luck!

  3. They aren't recyclable here b/c they are 5s and we can only recycle 1s & 2s.

Check with your local recycling center to see which numbers are accepted.

As to an alternative, they make paper cups from recycled paper,  but they are hard to find.

  4. If they have the little triangle on them they should be safe, always look for the recycle logo and you cant go wrong!

  5. All of those plastic cups are recyclable. If you want a greener alternative, simply wash the used plastic cups and use them again when you need them.

    Hope this helps!!!

  6. When you buy the cups, look for the recycling triange, but look for ones that have either a 1 or a 2 in the middle of the triangle.  Plastics are made of different chemicals, and plastics 1and 2 are the most commonly recycled.  Anything else probably is not going to get accepted.  I agree with the other answers-- wash, save and reuse the cups.  Then you're in charge of the recycling!  If you shop at a Target, Wal-mart, etc., I bet you can find very inexpensive glass glasses to use instead if you really want to be eco-conscious. You'll also have them for your next party!
