I'm just wondering if they are casue my 1 yr old got hold of one little bag thingy and was sucking on them but there didn't seem to be a hole in there as i was looking at them but when i was rubbing it to see what he had then it opened (it was still full) i don't think he got any in his mouth as i had checked but has anyone had this happened to them or know anyone who had?

Should i take him to the hospital? He seems like himself this just happended 20 mins ago. Just worried He's never gotten into anything like this before.

Thanks in advance. Please no rude or mean remarks please.

  1. Some are and some are not. call the poison control and they will tell you whether or not you need to go to the hospital. but in the mean time have him drink lots of water it will dilute anything he may or may not have ingested.

  2. yup..

  3. Silica gel itself is pretty much non-toxic.  But there may be other substances mixed with it.

I'd call poison control and see what they have to say.

  4. Firstly, this is a question for a doctor, not a stranger on Yahoo.  Secondly, as long as he didn't actually swallow any of them, he should be fine.

  5. They can cause one bad tummy ache but my friends nephew swallowed some of the little balls inside and the doctor said they do not break up in the system and can cause other problems when an child tries to pass them. As long as he didn't swallow any of the contents I wouldn't worry too much....He's getting to that age. My son is 2 and I remember when he started getting into things...I was nervous about everything.

  6. Well, I'm not a doctor but here's what I know.

These silicone balls are a substance called silica gel.

I searched for the effect of silica gel and I found the following reference. It seems not dangerous as the link says but please read all. The first reference has a conclusion of what all references contain.

  7. Call poison control and ask.

    It never hurts to ask.

And from what i remember .... those things are not silicone.  They're something else, very very poisonous.

  8. I think i saw a show saying that it only gives kids a tummy ache, but you should take him just in case.

  9. Call poison control

The packets are poisonus, but its hard to determin the amount that he might have ingested.

  10. call his doctor and ask they say dont eat on the bag for a reason they are deffinatly not healthy please take my advice and call his doctor

  11. it says do not ingest them but i dodnt believe they are poisonuos.. and u said thhe bag wasnt open until it was in your possesion.. so i would not be worried , however since it hasnt been very long ago keep good eye on him.. or just call your family doc and ask him his opinion to save an unnecessary trip to the er

  12. You need to call a Poison Control Center ASAP or the hospital or his doctor.  Those packets say " DO NOT EAT" on them.  So they may very well be poisonous, and he's just not showing symptoms yet.  They will give you instructions on what to do.

  13. Give your child milk straight away and go to the Doctor just in case.

  14. I'm sure that he's fine...I read somewhere that sometimes those things aren't as harmful but I've also read things saying they ARE very harmful.. but please get him checked out anyway.

And don't leave those baggies lying around anymore! Little kids love to put anything in their mouths.

  15. Since it only happened a short time ago you should have him checked at the hospital to make sure he will be ok.Also when you have those little bags in new items make sure you toss them in the garbage right away,so your little one can't get a hold of them.

  16. He's fine so long as he didn't swallow them. Just keep giving him water because his mouth is probably dry from it now. My baby sister did the same thing 2 months ago.

  17. how did he get them? those should be sought out and discarded whenever you make a new purchase.

they are designed to absorb moisture, to prevent new products getting damage/ moldy etc before you buy them. in the body they do the same thing.

"Although Silica Gel is harmless to use, non-toxic and totally safe, the phrase "Do Not Eat" printed on the packet is for good reason. If consumed in large quantities, it could dry up the liquid every human needs internally, and ultimatly kill you. Therefore, I suggest to stay away from eating this material. Another reason is that some kinds of Silica Gel contain Cobalt Chloride, which is proven to cause cancer. Silica dust can cause Silicosis, and other serious respitory problems. Since Silica Gel absorbs and holds other substances, it's possible it absorbed something harmful that would make it unsafe to eat. Although most of these situations are highly unlikely, I would play it safe and not eat the Silica Gel. "

  18. My brother ate one when he was like 4 and nothing happened. In fact me and my sister were supposed to be keeping an eye on him while my mom was on the phone, and we never even told her that he ate one.

I would maybe just call the doctor and see what they have to say before you rush to the ER.
