Those people who attend every function in town, and I don't really see what they gain out of it.

They even complain how boring the functions are during their time there. But they continue this lifestyle for decades or more years. Why?

Is it because they like the status of being in there?

They like to bump into their old friends there?

They already have the tuxedo, so why waste it?

  1. Social butterflies or socialites as you call them do so to keep up on what is going on around them.  The like people and to be around them is their way of enjoying life.  the mostly are looking to make contacts and accumulate information on other socialites.

  2. I don't know if it's actually like this but I'm reading a comic book where there's this big party for the rich and powerful and it's a big s*x party with lots of illegal drugs. Maybe that's why they attend.
