  1. Yes.  Congress passed a bill earlier this year mandating a phased discontinuation of the production of incandescent light bulbs, starting with 100-watt bulbs in 2012, and progressing to 40-watt bulbs in 2014.

    Here's a good FAQ from U.S. News- http://www.usnews.com/articles/business/...

The bad thing about this is the mercury issue.  CFL's contain mercury - a hazardous waste material, and it is illegal to dispose of them in the trash.  CFL bulbs must be taken to designated CFL mercury recycling centers, which are currently few and far between, and there is serious question as to whether processing and recycling capacity can be ramped up to handle billions of bulbs in just a few years time.  The naive response to the mercury issue is "don't worry about that pesky mercury - by 2012, we'll have something even better than CFL's".

Personally, I'm betting that the infrastructurer won't be in place and the ban gets delayed.

  2. Yes, and as soon as GE depreciates the factory that builds CFL's they will move on to LED,s  These are what you should look at as a replacement for your incandescent they are much better than CFL's just not very good availability yet

  3. I've heard that.  But it's kind of a bummer if they do, as certain lamps, especially really old ones, don't look right with flo. bulbs.  Maybe they will get better at making the light look more natural.

  4. Yes they are....between 2012 and 2014 they will be phased out.

  5. Yeah, I've heard about this.

Better stock up now on your favorite bulbs.
