What is the standard tip percentage, and is it different for different meals, such as breakfast, lunch and dinner? We don't eat out much, and will be dining out quite a bit for a week, and would need to tip our servers appropriately. Thanks!

  1. Standard tip for good service is 15% regardless of which meal you're eating. If you get exceptional service, you can always leave 20%. I usually won't leave less than a $2 tip, no matter how small the bill is. I also leave a little less if I go to a buffet because the server doesn't have to take the order ot bring out the food.

  2. 15% of your bill is customary, it doesn't matter what meal of the day it is. the only variance in this would be for a buffet where you help yourself to your meal. however if your server at a buffet restaurant is attending and making sure your table is neat and you have your beverages tended to, you need to take that into account and tip out 15% also. better than average service should receive 20%. servers work hard and should be appreciated when they do their job well.

  3. if you leave a percentage your bill as a tip (customary), then likely you are leaving a higher tip for dinner than lunch/breakfast. Dinner menus are usually higher priced than other meals :)

  4. Your tip should be 15-20 percent of the bill. What meal is being served has nothing to do with it.
