Are tips included on bills in Canada?

Hate to be rude but im a waitress and Canadian customers ALWAYS leave less than 10 percent, but usually tell me how great the service was

  1. Tips are sometimes included in fine dining restaurants or for large groups.  Otherwise, not usually.  

    I always tip 15 to 20% .  

    However.... we are on the metric system.... and our dollar is not worth as much as others (I am only kidding - not making excuses).

    I apologise on behalf of all (the smart) Canadians.

  3. That is odd.  I am a waitress in Canada and I get way more than 10 percent.  No the tips are not included in the meal.

  4. In most fancier restaurants, it would say 'Gratuity' and they would bill you for a certain percentage (10 - 15%), but usually you would tip 15% if the service was good.

  5. my wife and I are both in the restaurant buisness. I am well aware of the poor tipping edicut practiced by forigners. On our honeymoon we spent a week in canada and intentionally tipped poorly everywhere we went. When in Rome.....

  6. In some restaurants yes they are added onto the check. Most places don't.  Usually, it is left up to the customer to decide how much to tip.  If the service was good, it is customary to leave ~15%.  I think it was very rude of you to state that Canadians leave <10% of a tip.  Maybe the service wasn't all that good.  We were probably just being polite when we said the service was great.  Probably with the same old routine banter as when you asked us "how y'all doin?"

  8. I don't think that Canadians tip bad, I'm Canadian and always tip more than 15%.  You probably have just run into some cheapskates and hey every country has those including the US (probably more).  Maybe your service isn't as good as you think.
