Question:

Are tomatoes similar to onions?

It sounds silly, but I was wondering how close they are to each other (whether they are in the same family) because I noticed that when eating raw tomatoes (by themselves) they produce an aftertaste very similar to the flavor of onions, only more mild. Anybody know?

  5. No, they are not of the same family,  they have a similar "bite"  and compliment each other in dishes though.

  6. no. onions are simular to tulip bulbs that grow in the ground. tomatoes are fruits that grow on a plant. some things taste alike, like artichokes and sunchokes, but they have nothing else in common.
