Are tornadoes possible in Singapore?

Waterspouts are not rare in Singapore. So how often does it happen and is it possible to have tornadoes on land? What are the differences between tornado and waterspout besides land and water occurences.?

  1. such things are phenomenons of sub tropic / sub temperates...where the hot meets the cold...

    Singapore is only 1 deg off the equator...so not possible for tornadoes......


  2. Waterspouts tend to be weaker than tornadoes that touch down on land. But waterspouts are still dangerous and can do damage it is just less likely a waterspout would have the ability to do ef5 damage. Most waterspouts are formed by a nonsupercell over water. A tornado usually is spawned by a supercell, which is a very violent thunderstorm.

    Waterspouts that touch down in the ocean or over a body of water can run into land eventually and will do damage. There is not a place on this earth with the exception of antarctica (due to the cold) that cannot experience a tornado. Most places won't just because so many conditions must be set forth right. But tornadoes can form anywhere.
