I have 2 JBL e80 tower speakers. I just got the definitive procinema 1000 series. Should i keep the e80s or switch them out for the procinema 1000 monitors? Does the fact that the tower is so much bigger make it a better speaker?

  1. The size of the speakers are purely aesthetics. Its the power and quality that matter.

  2. Size has nothing to do with quality. It is the way they are designed and the materials used, that determines sound quality.

  3. If you were comparing smaller and larger of the same brand of speakers you might find that the larger speaker sounds fuller because it is easier to get low notes in a larger enclosure but better is an opinion. Besides Definitive is regarded as a better brand of speaker than JBL these days. The Procinemas are supposed to be pretty good and they are a matched set so they probably get the nod in this case. As always listen to what is in your budget then listen to a step up and a step down to get an idea what you gain and give up then pick what you like.

  4. Bigger speakers does not mean it is a better speaker, what it really has to do with is space.

Depending on the size of the room , and how much space you can allow or rather your spouse will allow in the room. That's why there is a variety of shape and sizes of speakers out there.

What makes a better speaker is the research and development of a speaker, craftsmanship, and the parts that make up a speaker.

That's why when I purchase a speaker system, I prefer to buy from a company that makes only speakers for their livelihood, they have to make a good speaker in order to survive.

  5. A speakers size doesnt make much difference on how it sounds. try playing movies with the different speakers, and see what you like better.. some larger speakers have a more full sound, while smaller ones have a higher over all tone, and really need a subwoofer to accompany the lack of bass.. its up to you how you like the sound. experimenting is the only good way to tell.

  6. it is quality that counts drivers.x-over box constrution ect the old saying (you pay for what you get) try a high end used pr. check out www.audiogon.com  i have been using this site for 9 years    great stuff
