Are toyotas being punished unfairly by the timing of this mandate?

tina, yes, carl had to work within the guidelines too - back when they were set the SAME FOR EVERYBODY at the beginning of the year. he's not going to have change how he drives now because his car is going to be 15 horsepower lighter. but the toyota drivers now have "new guidelines" forced on them (again) and the other teams can play "watch-and-see" to see how toyota does now then decide on whether or not they want to use their new engines. if toyota does worse now, what incentive does chevy have to change to the R07, then have to install the stricter restrictor?

and how can you not call forcing one manufacturer, who all year has been told they were within specs and all was fine - through two previous tests, to learn to deal with a car that suddenly has 15 less horsepower. no matter how you look at it is a penalty - a 15 horsepower penalty - for playing by the rules and doing it better than the others...

  1. The rules in place on day 1 of the season should be the rules on the last day of the season. A mid season rules change doesn't seem fair to me.

  3. NASCAR is the new IROC. Hopefully it will last 10 more years. Then the babies that cry about Toyota will have their wish.

  4. I'm guessing and only guessing, but I would think that this was announced a few weeks ago to the teams and it's just now come out to the public just for the fact that time was needed to test these things out.

    There's a ton of things that I find unfair about NA$CAR, but 2 wrongs dont make a right if in fact no notice was given.  But it should seem pretty obvious that NA$CAR done the wrong thing out of the gate and I do hate mid-season rule changes.

    I'm glad it's changed, but like many others, I dont wanna see IROC cars, and it's unfortunate that this is what the sport has come down to.

Yes Rowdy.  I won't explain but yes.  Well I'll explain a bit.  Look at Roush a few years back and DEI .  They did nothing until the season ended.  Some fans and teams now have a "witchhunt" out for Toyota.  JGR did their homework.  Well anyway for your sake and any JGR fan it won't matter.  Let them do it.  I'll enjoy Saturday night when they win again.  lol

  7. What YES said. I just answered a question before this one, it's to the point lets just have NASCAR run 43 IROC cars each week. The France family has already shot itself in the foot with these ridiculous rule changes and ghost yellows.

    They built a good engine with in the rules so let them keep it and tell the competition to just get better.

    I mean Chevy and Hendrick dominated last year and NASCAR didn't do a thing about it....

    But then again there only doing this in the Nationwide Series.

  13. You know I am a Jr fan and I drive a Ford. The make of car on the track is pointless it seems. NASCAR trys so hard to get everybody even it makes me want to puke! They should have given the teams time to adjust but they have done this before and will again. They will keep messing around until they are all running Hondas and burning methanol. It is as bad as bringing a new tire to the track that is not even close to what was used before or tested.

  14. Yes, they should have given them warning BUT they have been living on borrowed time already.  Some might suggest that the advantage they have had all along is much more unfair than the abrupt enforcement of these new rules.

  15. It is unfair because the only reason Toyota has more horsepower is because when they came to cup their new engines were the latest generation in cup. Other teams don't have enough funding to buy and build the new engines that came standard to Toyota. If they are going to punish them on such short notice, why not make the new engines standard for every cup team.

    All they have to do is add a  tapered spacer (restrictor plate) to the engine and NASCAR rules says that NASCAR will provide this plate.

    How long does Gibbs need to bolt on a restrictor plate? Until November..???

    NASCAR needs to approve engines and there would be no restrictor plate. Ford needs to submit their designs for a new engine before September. Dodge too.

    I still say no way. Carl Edwards had to work within the guidelines didn't he? It was unfair to him too wasn't it?

    Also how is it a "horsepower penalty"? I haven't seen anything that says there is a penalty.  All I have seen is a deadline for Toyota to reduce their horsepower and NASCAR just says "Bolt this plate on". How unfair is it that Chevy has had to race all season with 17 to 21 horsepower less?  (Milwaukee and Chicagoland tests results not to mention the 30 hp advantage in the Cup series and also Xtra HP in the truck series.)

    My answer is this. Chevy has already tried to get Nascar to let Chevy use the R07 engines.

    I will not add anything more to that because I know it will only confuse you. Do your homework. Research the facts and you will not be at odds with everyone else.

  18. YES...this kind of thing shouldve happen WAAAAY before  in the beginning of the season.  I agree with you 100%....just for that i hope Kyle comes in second to JEFF GORDON...if Gordon can't win it...than i'll go with kyle. =)

  20. Well Toyota shouldn't even be in Nascar this is an AMERICAN sport, and Toyota only has fast cars right now because they have an unlimited budget, so I don't care what they have to do they should either get out or shut up.
