  1. The majority of trains do not run over Christmas Day (its one of the main day when engineering takes place due to no trains running), but companies like Heathrow Express & Gatwick Express run a limited service to the airports.

Even London Underground closes down so there is no tube!

  2. It will be business as usual for most freight railroads...that is if all the crews dont mark off...

  3. *****YES******

Yes indeed... In fact I know some guys who worked last Christmas... You don't think people that work for a living get the holiday off do ya?

  4. The ones I drive won't be running, and i'll be at home with a glass of Port infront of the fire watching a repeat of "The Two Ronnies Christmas Special" for about the 25th time. Driving trains on Christmas day, as the Cathrine Tate Show charicter would say "How very, very dare you!"

  5. There will be no main line services running on Christmas day or boxing day, but some commuter services will run a limited service

  6. Only model ones.

Christmas and New Years Day you've no chance of rail travel, although the London underground usually has a small amount of trains still running.

  7. Freight trains run 24 /7/365 except leap year then it's 24/7/366.

If you are talking about Amtrak Email them.

And if you don't live in the U.S.or Canada don't email Amtrak because they can't help you.

  8. Its probably a safe bet that somewhere in the world at least one train will be running on Christmas day.

  9. no they will not be running on Christmas day. it is the only day of the year that they don't.

  10. Not in UK, well at least not by our TOC, nor boxing day. The P-Way guys will be out in force though so expect rail replacement buses all over the network whilst engineering work is carried out during the Christmas period.

  11. Big NO NO !!!!

  12. running nononononono....they roll on wheels.....

  13. No - They do run new years day - see www.nationalrail.co.uk and click on Christmas Times

The track gangs will be out in force

  14. no the train drivers have to enjoy  the Christmas

  15. No, they have all planned to go to Grandma's house for a turkey dinner and pie after exchanging gifts.

  16. yes in the US they do amtrack just passed me 10 mins ago

  17. No they dont

  18. Assuming you are talking about the UK, no trains themselves will be operating, but rail replacement bus services will be operating for Heathrow Express and Gatwick Express I believe. On Boxing Day, certain commuter routes will be operating. 27th - 30th December will be operating a Saturday service on most lines (with some shut for engineering works). 31st December will be operating a Sunday service generally, with extra overnight services in the London area. New Years Day will be a Sunday service into Monday service about midday on most routes, 2nd January again generally a Saturday service, and on 3rd January normal service resumes.

  19. Certain trains do run from Gatwick

  20. They haven't so far or perhaps I should say they have 't for the last few years.  I think the buses will be running but only on a very restricted service if at all.

  21. i very much doubt it

  22. No

  23. Assuming you are talking about Britain - NO! NOT AT ALL - anywhere! Nor on Boxing Day apart from the London Underground  and a small number of exceptions.

No buses either. Plenty of buses in London on Boxing Day - but  very few if any elsewhere.

  24. Yes,but only trains from London Victoria to Gatwick Airport, and from London Paddington to Heathrow Airport...follow this link for who's running where over the Xmas/New Year period..

    http://nrekb.nationalrail.co.uk/service_...

  25. probably

  26. where?

last I knew, Amtrak and Metro-North ran limited services on Christmas, if that's any help.
