  1. No, they are not poisonous.

    They are, however venomous.

    The potency of the venom depends on the kind of tarantula.  Tarantulas from the new world (Americas) have the no worse than bee sting venom.  Instead though, they have these nasty hairs that they can kick off their legs and abdomen that can cause nasty rashes.

    Old world tarantulas (Asia, Middle East, Africa) have much stronger venom, and are usually meaner.  In fact, some old world tarantula bites can require a doctor, although no one has ever been confirmed to have been killed by a tarantula bite.


  2. There is poison in a tarantula bite but it is very weak and rarely has more effect on a person than a bee sting would.
