  1. Sort of....actually no, not really. Did you know alcohol is a depressant? There's a big difference between alcohol and tranquiliser.

  3. Tranquilizers such as valium etc are depressants.

    However, I suspect you mean antidepressants....in which case the answer is no, they are not.

    They may be given in conjunction with antidepressants for a patient that is also very anxious and agitated along with being depressed.  It is a bit of a slippery slope however, as they are habit forming, and as I mentioned already, they are depressants.

  4. Yes and no. Depends if your a psychiatrist.Anti-depres. are also given for insomnia.

  5. no..tranquilizers make u go to sleep immediately. depressants (such as alcohol) just slow down ur nervous system but dont put u into sleep
