Are trees plants?

Okay this all started with my homework,

The question was asking what i learned from watching a video for school , and i started writing and now i'm stuck because i came across this path on which i dont know what to say... is a tree considered a plant?

I asked my mom and she said no and said plant and trees have total different roots but... then my brother said yeah i think so because a tree was planted so it's a plant.. (then again it could just be a smartaz comment)

Where I come from trees are plants. It grows from a seed.

Nah there actualy members of the cat species , you know like tigers and lions.

A tree is a plant.  It grows from a seed planted in the ground.  Doesn't matter if it's planted by hand or planted by wind and water and nature.  It just grows bigger than what we think of as a plant.  We think of "houseplants" as plants.

of course trees are plants. They go through photosynthesis just like every other plant. Just because their roots are different doesn't mean they don't belong to that category
