  1. Trees are the source of solvents, resins, medicines, food, fiber, lumber, modifiers of environment, habitats for all sorts of living creatures, dyes, oils, latex, chicle, tannins, shade, climbing exercises, swing attachment, source of beauty, recyclers of soil nutrients, and probably more that I haven't thought about as yet!

  2. Rows of trees act as windbreaks on flatter land and healthy forests protect soil from water erosion.

A forest floor of leaves and decaying wood acts as a giant sponge by absorbing, filtering and holding water.

Properly managed trees can provide excellent sources of income, such as the sale of crops, saplings or wood products.

Trees save energy by cooling the air and ground around them - one tree has the cooling effect of five air conditioners

Trees help reduce wind and can significantly reduce animal stress. Livestock not only need less feed, but their gains are higher. Shade provided by trees is also helpful to animals on very hot days.

Tree planting projects provide ongoing education for local communities about sustainable agriculture

Trees and windbreaks reduce noise from high-speed traffic and other sounds

Wooded areas make valuable cover, nesting, and breeding areas for wildlife

Well-kept wooded areas and nice clumps of trees make the world a little more beautiful

You can't beat climbing a really big tree. Make sure you know how you're going to get back down though.

  3. Hermann! I hope you're kidding. :-) I guess you never had a tree house!

Besides converting our waste gas, carbon dioxide, into oxygen that we need to live (although there are other organisms that produce more oxygen than trees), they are also a source of food (I have a cherry tree and a peach tree and the chipmunks love the nutmegs and acorns in my yard). In addition, they provide shelter for other organisms, and provide us with maple syrup, shade and wind protection, and lumber.

However, around Nov. 10th or so, when I've been raking leaves for several weeks and realize I still have several more weeks to go, I often ask myself the same question.

  4. Well, have you ever lived in a house, eaten apples, plums or oranges (hundreds more common examples I could have chosen here), breathed, had a campfire, paddled a canoe or written on paper? If so, then, yes, trees have been helpful in your life. :)

  5. Yes. Really

  6. Come one, you know this! Be honest.

  7. they are helpful because they take in co2 and let out oxygen which in turn helps us breathe.
