I asked a question on here the other day about ultralights and most of the people warned me not to get one. Are there any safe ultralights or are they really that dangerous? I understand some are probably not but there must be one thats trustworthy.. Could you please give facts about them, not your opinion. Thanks

  1. To answer your question yes, ultra lights are safe.  Here in the U.S. as in many other countries they are manufactured to design and specifications kind of like aircraft.  However they do have weight and setting limitation man dated by Title 49 Part 103.  Many of the two seat types were recently certificated with U.S. N-number making them Experimental Light Sport Aircraft (E-LSA).

I have inspected and certificated 50 in the past two years.  They are reliable if maintained to manufactures standards just like any other equipment.  The unsafe part is the pilot that is not trained to fly his make and model or exceeds the limitation of the craft.

I have lots of information on my web site http://www.stacheair.com You can read about the different E-LSA aircraft or the new S-LSA these are very safe.

  2. should be unless you're in a severe storm!

  3. They are safe if you have the proper flight instruction.  You can also have ballistic parachutes installed on the ultralights that can float the plane down if something were to happen.  Check out http://www.freedomfield.com for more information on ultralight planes.

  4. All machinery is safe. It's people that make them dangerous.

  5. no..

the propellers have the ability to chop people up

    :D

    sushi?

  6. They are safe as long as the pilot is trained and not a risk taker.

The problem is that pilots need minimum training to fly ultralights.

    Good Luck...
