Yes and no. The unicorn began life as a White rhino. Early explorers from Europe to India(?) saw a new creature and described it the best they knew how. "It is four legged like a horse, is white and has a horn on it's head." It was later in the Middle ages that the Unicorn became more recognizable as what we know today.
