  1. Not meaning to give a stupid answer, but I don't know what a steamer is. All I can tell you is that being a vegetarian is a personal decision. You make the rules about what is acceptable for you to eat and what is not.

Edit: That will come down to your definition of vegetarianism. For some reason (I have no clue why) fish fall into a gray area with whether people consider them a meat product. If you eat fish, go for it. If not then don't.

  2. You can have whatever you want, but you're not a vegetarian if you eat shellfish. They're animals, aren't they? Vegetarians don't eat animals.

  3. There are no rules to being vegetarian. It's your choice! Personally, I think of vegetarian as eating nothing alive (well, plants dont count), so I would say no. It is entirely your choice though.

  4. Well what you eat is up to you. But vegetarians don't eat any type of animal/living being (besides plants) and steamers are a living thing. So you would be a pescaterian if you ate steamers, not a vegetarian...but do what makes you happy =)

  5. There are no technical rules, but in my OPINION: fish are not vegetarian, because to ME vegetarianism is not defined by what has a "face", it's defined by not eating creatures that feel pain and/or have lives of their own. HOWEVER, what YOU decide is alright with your concience is up to YOU. I PERSONALY do not think that qualifies as vegetarian, but again IT IS UP TO YOU.

Edit: I just checked out more info on them. While considering if they are vegetarian, it is useful to know that they are generaly boiled alive.

  6. "Steamers" are animals.

    Vegetarians do not eat animals.

  7. what are steamers???? ={

  8. If you don't want to eat animals, you should avoid steamers. Shellfish are animals.

But honestly, what you are "allowed" to eat is up to you. If you want to go pescetarian, go ahead.

  9. Eat what you want- it's a personal decision.

But if, by "steamers" you are referring to soft shell clams, then the answer is: Vegetarians do not eat seafood.

  10. Nope.  Vegetarians don't eat fish.

  11. Well, if it's some sort of fish, vegetarians can eat fish. But I wouldn't. That's just me, but I wont eat a living creature.

  12. I'd say don't eat the steamers! Is there any bread around, or other sides?!?! Eat them instead of if your craving is too strong just stay away I guess!

  13. the question i give myself is- are steamers even sentient beings?  I choose to be pescatarian because sea animals do not have to be aware of the pain that land animals have to have growing up (when raised in feedlots).  What do I mean by that?  Sea animals often get to live their lives in the sea before having the misfortune of being caught or eaten- just as things are in natural ecosystems (you dont see any animals really keeping and harvesting other animals for food).  Furthermore, some animals you can say cant be aware of pain because they might not even be aware of themselves.

  14. Just so the folks out there know what a steamer is,  here is a photo.

  15. Well, don't VEGANS not use or eat ANY animal products?

Sure, if you are vegetarian you CAN eat seafood, I know for many friends and my psychologist are.

    EDIT:

There are different types, like Lacto-Ovo, in which they don't eat ANY thing, living or was living, but eat dairy products. I think there is a Pesce(sp?) in which they DO eat seafood.

    A-Ha! Found it :-)

Go ahead and be a pescatarian, eating seafood and your steamers without feeling guilty or anything!

  16. no

sorry to tell u this but steamers are non-vegetarian food

i know how that feels but.... noway :)

  17. They are animals.  Vegetarians don't eat animals.

  18. there are no rules to being a vegatarian. its a personal decision. its not like if you eat a chicken wing peta is gonna come to your house and attack you or anything. the only person that can really answer this is yourself.

im a vegatarian too and in my opinion, if it ever lived or breathed air, its an animal. unless its plant. but this is completely your decision.

  19. There are allkinds of vegetarians.  Some eat fish, some drink milk, some eat eggs, others, the true vegan eat only plants.

I love steamers but always dipped them in butter.  Clams have one of the most complex proteins, 4 million Daltons.  I think they are great nutrition.

    Loosen up and have some.....they r good 4 u.
