Are vehicles 10 years old or older more deadly?

Auto accidents are the number one killer of children ages 4 to 14. In 2005, an average of five children died each day and another 640 were injured daily in auto accidents.

How many of these deaths happened in vehicles 10 years or older?

  1. If you knew that your car would kill you/your child in an accident, would it change your driving?    For how long???   I think cars are just too safe, letting people forget to be afraid and drive well.

  2. Pamela d is right.

Also, it would be foolish to make the connection, even if 10 year-old cars were involved in more accidents. It woud simply mean that those particular cars are used more.

For example, if 90% of the cars were red, and 90% of the accidents included red cars, it would be wrong to say that the color red causes more accidents. It is quite obvious that acidents are going to occur, and the cars involved are to be the ones most commonly purchased, just due to odds.

The type of statistic-spinning  that you are attempting to do is not right. It is the type used by politicians and the news media to twist the truth. Engaging in this type of statistic-spinning is unethical, at best.

  3. I don't know how many kids die from older cars in accidents, but if you go to junk yards and just take a look around you will see most of the crashed cars are newer one.

  4. I am sure that it can have something to do with it but at the same time a new 2008 is better in safety issues but really no better than a 1998 model if the car is driven unsafe, there is no way to tell when and what will happen just always drive as safe as possible at all times.

  5. Wow, the government told us it was second-hand smoke.

I don't think you'll find that the age of the car is a contributor to fatalities.  There may be some correlation with the age of driver, or drug and alcohol use.

  6. older cars are way safer then the new c**p that's out there. they were made of steel and chrome. the new cars are plastic and fiberglass. old car will crumple under pressure, new cars fall apart. i will never drive a new vehicle. I'd rather have a dented bumper, than have one fall apart in a fender bender. (or with new cars, a fender breaker)

  7. Nothing scientific here but people driving older cars are more likely to not be as careful,ie don't give a sh*t. Or maybe people who know they are bad drivers don't want to drive a newer car?

  8. I have a old car and its over 10 years old and i driven a car for 20 years or so it not the age of the car its the driver that has the accident
