Question:

Are we able to see some examples of evoution with our own eyes?

I am specifically meaning that generally each generation seems to be larger, faster, more advanced in many areas. If we compared the average size of humans over the last 100 years, and the average abilities, is this not distinct enough to give some evidence of evolution?

  1. The common cold virus?

  2. Evidence of evolution is EVERYWHERE!!!  but yes, what you just mentioned is one sign of it.  If you want more, take a look at what is happening with humans eyesight, width of feet as well as pinky toe, and the lack of specific flexor tendons in the hands of some humans.  And stay CLEAR of the 'dinosaurs are a conspiracy jesus fanatics'!!

  3. Jesus Christ made this earth evolution is a myth and an excuse, but a poor one.

  4. Yes. Fruit fly populations have been observed to evolve as they have a lifespan of about 30 days. E. coli has also been observed to evolve over time. Remember, evolutionary fitness does not necessarily mean the best or strongest. It actually means that the organism lives to reproduce, as does its line of "descendants".

  5. No, this is not an example of evolution. This is an example of better nutrition.

There are examples of evolution we can see with our own eyes, check out some research in flies and the aids virus.

  6. Not in humans; 100 years really isn't that long in complex lifeforms with regards to recognizable mutations.

You can witness evolution if any laboratory with a good microscope and someone who know what they're doing.

    Have fun.

  7. There are a few observed speciation events. One is the London Underground mosquito, which will hardly breed with above ground species now, and even has it's own races specific to each line.

There's a list of some others here.

Also, the beak shape of the finches in the Galapagos has been observed to change with climate, just a Darwin said it would, very recently due to the weather changes attributable to El Nino.

A good blog entry on the finches

Humans however, have generations that are too long to observe. There's been an increase in size and IQ due to improved nutrition though.

  8. Not precisely.

The change in the size and relative prowess of humans today, is attributable to environmental improvements. Our food, nutrition, gene mix, elements of housing, etc.

Real evolutionary changes in humans are, according to scientists, not observable based on the archaeological findings over the course of time.

However, although not observable in man, evolutionary changes are all around us. Many of the animal species we see today are the result of eons of evolution. It is not necessary for you and I to attempt to prove the evolutionary theory here. Evolution is a scientific paradigm and, until proved deficient or until a new paradigm is advanced and proved: evolution remains unarguable among sentient persons.

  9. better examples are in breeds of dogs, or types of crops.. anything where selective breeding has created specific types...

  10. Look up these two words:

    Entropy

    Adaptation

    I think they'll throw you a loop.

  11. Well answering the question in the form and timeframe you've put it would be like concluding that only heads can come up on a coin after 2 throws that showed heads only...in otherwords evolution is a longterm phenomenon observationally

But to give a sad example: Cancer- you see the process of evolution very readily here. Mutation causes the cell to lose control over cell division ( evolution to cancer) and divide into daughter cells rapidly. These cells rapidly run out of oxygen and most die off but a few mutants that evolve the enhanced ability to form new blood vessels are selected( i.e survive) and keep tumor growth escalating. Then when we treat with chemo some cells die while other mutants can withstand the chemo and grow in number as we select them by giving chemo.....result: the treatment stops working. this is all evolution essentially and people are just silly denying it....I believe in God but I just can't put my belief in biblical stories written in the stoneage
