Question:

Are we all "Born into debt"?

I was sitting around talking with some friends at my BBQ on sunday afternoon, and we all got on the subject of "Debt". One of my friends piped up with this little nugget of wisdom that quieted some of us, and angered others. Nobody believed it, but nobody could prove it wrong either. I'll list it here...."Did you know when you birth your baby at home w/o a Doctors assistance you still get a bill of their birth? Over $3000.00 bill for a home birth that I delivered myself with the help of my Husband and oldest child, it's because the baby has to be registered as being yours."

Now can you see what i mean. This sounds just wrong on a basic human level, but in today's really screwed up way of living our lives it could be true. I don't know. So I'm asking you all here at yahoo-answers if any of you know whether it's true or not, and please cite some laws on the books that i can reference. If this is true, it changes alot of what I thought of the world around me, and how much I really see done wrong in my votes name.

  1. If your child is born a citizen of a country, you need to follow the rules of that country. The child does not pay for a birth certificate, you do,s o the child is not born into debt.

It is fair to charge a "reasonable" fee for providing birth certificates. If you had to do it, and maintain the records of all the births in a county, you would have to pay your expenses some way.

$3,000 is not reasonable for a birth certificate.

FYI: Those "loan" answers are spammers and should be reported for abuse.

  2. What does that have to do with being in debt?  If you live on less money than you make. Have a savings account and insurance. Your parents pay the bill.  Its your parents responsibility not the baby. If they don't have the money and have to borrow it and go into debt. Then that's bad financial planing on their part.

"Born into debt"?  I think not.

Your question was. Are we all born into debt?

NO we are not born into debt.  Being in debt means you owe someone money. A newborn cannot be legally responsible for that.

I'm sure that it is more to it than just the paperwork. someone has to keep track of all of it. No one is gonna do the work for free.

  3. Call your County Health Dept. and ask if there is any charge to get a birth certificate for a home-born baby.  I imagine it would be the same price as hospital-born but I don't know who certifies it.
