  1. In winter only(northern hemisphere),the sun is closer to the sun. This position is called the 'perigee' in the earth's elliptical orbit around the sun.In this position the south pole is pointed towards the sun and has its summer period.

Luckily.the sun is nearer to us(in the N.H) during winter. Otherwise, if the sun happens to be nearer to us during our summer, the summer would have been more hotter and the winter more colder.

  2. In the summer we are closer to the sun. That is why the days are longer and it is hotter. In the winter, we are further away from the sun. That is why the days are shorter and colder.

  3. In the Northern hemisphere, the earth is actually closer to the sun than in the summer. It's the opposite in the southern hemisphere (because the seasons are opposite).

  4. The hemisphere tilted towards the sun experiences summer while the other hemisphere experiences winter. However, the earth as a whole is slightly closer to the sun (Perihelion ) in January than in July (Aphelion).

  5. the sun is closer to use in the summer farther  in winter

  6. The Earth reaches it's closest point to the Sun, known as perihelion, around the 4th of January, and it's farthest point from the Sun (Aphelion), about 3 million miles further out, around the 4th of July.  So we are closer to the Sun during the northern hemisphere winter/southern hemisphere summer.
