My two friends and i are all 18 yrs old and wanting to move into a place of our own. Our only income would be from the two part time jobs me and my friend have. We only make about $150-$250 a paycheck maybe a little less. My third friend doesn't have a job yet. Do you think we can get food stamps or would it be better to fill out or applications seperately?

  1. If two of you only have part-time jobs and the third one is unemployed, there's no way you're ever going to find a landlord willing to rent to you. Even if you did, how do you think you'd be able to pay all the other bills associated with living on your own -- electricity, telephone, internet, heat ...

You really need to re-think this plan. Instead of trying to figure out how you can get the government to support you, it would be nice if you instead try to figure out how you can *work* for the money you need to support *yourself*!

  2. It sounds like you and your friends are not quite ready to leave the nest. Be responsible and have some pride. Food stamps should be for the needy, not the spoiled.

Wouldn't you be ashamed to say that you are on government assistance? It is not just free money to whoever wants it. It is for people who are deperate and need temporary assistance to help pull them out of a rut. You and your friends need to all get full time jobs and not rely on the government. Work hard and do things the right way. You will have more respect for yourself at the end of the day, and other people will have more respect for you.

  3. I'm not sure which state you're in, but most states have programs for young adults.  Just go to your local Dept of Human Services and fill out separate applications.  Make sure you are very upfront about your situation.

    Good luck.

  4. It depends on what state you are in probably. In Michigan the limit is 1400 a month. It would be better if you applied seperately and say that you buy your own food and you split the bills. I assume that's what your doing anyway. They will subtract the bills from your monthly income and decide how much you get each month.
