Are we friends or not?

Okay, so last year we had a hard year and I did stupid stuff. I was wondering if me and my best friend are friends. We talked on registration day and I was going to have a surgery the other week he said good luck with your surgery. Then we chatted on-line about hanging out and he wrote I want to have new friends and try to get a girlfriend and I was worried so we chatted on-line and took 3 hours and we seem to get along. We laughed and said funny stuff so I put talk to you at school and he put sounds okay. Do you think he still wants to be my friend and I am starting my sophomore year and I was wondering if that's going to be better than freshman year. BTW I am a girl and my best friend is a guy so I had a crush on him since 8th grade

I think you are still friends by the sounds of it ?

I wouldn't get too close to him though because there might be girls who like him but if you are hanging out with him , they might think that you are his girlfriend. Just try talk to him in school a bit more but not too much , remember though , he might want some space so just give it time and now and then go out to the cinema or something. Just to let him know that you still want to be his friend and one day maybe ask him does he feel the same way ?
