Question:

Are we getting Value for Money?

A question of economics for you:

Think of your take home earnings last month

Multiply it by 10

Now multiply it by 2

Add the two together

This is how much you need to live for a whole year.

The government gets the rest.

Do they spend it wisely and if not how would you like it spent?

  1. Your maths don't add up.

We don't get 12 months of take home pay and the government the rest, everything we buy from furniture to insurance to fuel has tax added (except some foods and kids and disabled stuff), because somehow our illustrious leaders take VAT on everything (not yet worked out what value they add to my purchases). Duty is added to fuel, cars have to have a valid road tax to be legal.

My husband and I have both worked always, we have no children and have never been in receipt of any benefits. We haven't holidayed often as we have pets so managed to put a little by. He has MS and found working difficult so took early retirement but because he payed into a pension fund gets nothing. My mother in law died 2 years ago and as an only child he got her property, the property which was paid for after taxes were taken from her and father in law's earnings. When she died we were presented with a tax bill because we inherited the property. We now have a little nest egg and have to continue paying tax on it.

I've always accepted that in an enlightened society those earning need to pay tax for those that cannot earn for whatever reason this may be, but we are now paying the third layer of tax for this money though our joint income is less than a minister's second home allowance.

The government don't get what's left after take home pay, they get the lot in the end, but we still have an education system, an NHS and a pension system all brought to their knees.

Maybe you can give me three guesses at whether they spend it wisely or not!

  2. HAHAHAHAHAA , YOU ARE JOKING OF COURSE ,THIS SO CALLED GOVERNMENT OF TOTAL IDIOTS SPEND OUR MONEY WISELY . WERE HAVE YOU BEEN FOR THE LAST FEW YEARS . CLOUD COCKOO LAND

  3. I'd like to ask why you didn't just say "Multiply your earnings last month by twelve"? Why ten and then two?

  4. We have the economics of the nuthouse here in Britain; Brown isn't fooling anyone any more.

New Tax announced - six months wait and then he implements it - nobody will appreciate it was him.  He has used that one too often now.

You can't strangle the economy with stealth taxation and expect nobody to notice.

  5. Before spending I would save by bringing our boys home from Iraq, Afghanistan.  Stop giving money to the EU.  Stop setting up expensive groups to set targets that hamper the police, schools and the NHS.  Stop the expensive computer scheme (NHS) and not issue identity cards.

Second homes, if MPs must have them (what is wrong with state owned accommodation?) when sold the profit should go back to the taxpayers who have contributed massively towards them.

An independent body should check expenses and MPs salary increases.

That lot should save enough to sort out pensioners, the disabled.

    Some hopes?
