Much of the electronics that can be purchased for less than $100 was total fantasy a few decades ago.

Do you feel that you are a character in a science-fiction novel?

  1. Hehe. I think we are just getting a bit more advanced in our technology, but I see what you mean.

  2. Not really but what I've wondered is whether or not the ideas for technological advances have come from sci-fi novel/tv programs.  There was a tv show on the History Channel that talked about it once but I didn't catch it.

As far as the cost of technology today a lot of that has to do with marketing.  There's 4 groups of people and the first group is going to buy it at the high price because then can say they have it.  Then when sales start to slow down and newer tech comes out the price goes down and the next group buys because it's cheaper, closer to their price range and they want the product.  Then sales are going to go down again and with them the price going to drop again and that's when the average joe is going to buy it.  And this is generally where the price is going to stay because the last group of people really have no interest in the product and aren't likely to buy no matter what the price.

  3. Nah, I've never been a science-fiction novel character.

The fairies and gnomes in my backyard got me stuck in the Fantasy genre.

  4. science non fiction is our reality

  5. It's the dawn of a new age. It used to take man kind tens of thousands of years to evolve in the simplest ways, (i.e. invent bow and arrow, understand the concept of agriculture, etc.) and now it seems like we have new technological wonders coming at us everyday. This amount of growth can be dangerous, however, and causes some of the most discussed issued in our time, such as poverty, global warming, wars and bad economical balance. So in sum, it can feel like we're living in the age of technology, in some sci-fi writer's plot line, but we can only hope that things turn out better in the end.

  6. I don't think so, but see your point. Times have changed and better technology is available now for better costs, I suppose :/
