Are we living or dying?

I know it sounds like a stupid question.

But if you think about it...we're all going to die one day and everyday we're one step closer to death, so we're in the dying process..

So are we living or dying?

(Or am I just being weird?)

  1. I think, whether we are living or dying is merely a question of our mindset..... it is all in the mind...... most of us are living, some a good satisfying life, but others not such a good life, yet yes, most of us are indeed living. There are perhaps just a few who may be dying rather than living.... those are the few people who are all the time thinking of death and worrying over it...... otherwise, for most of us, our own death is hardly ever a subject of thought or worry, so much so that when death does actually come, it becomes the greatest shock of our life!!

  2. No- you are OK- it is just that we are all within a bit of both.

  3. Living to die :)

  4. Our society has put such a negative connotation on death.  Think of it as being in a process of change instead of in the process of dying.

We are all in the process of changing and death is just another stage in that change.

  5. I am living. I enjoy almost every minute of every day. I was in a motorcycle accident in 96 and almost died. Since then I LIVE my life.

  6. you get to choose if your glass is half empty or half full.

  7. Both; as each day passes you get a day closer to death but your still alive

But you can't say that your alive if your just waiting for you body to rot

If a person say living/dying as an answer then the question is no different to the question "is the glass half-empty or half-full

  8. This begs a couple other questions:  what is being alive and what is being dead?

I usually define death as the point at which an entity's resources go fallow or are consumed by other living things.  If nobody pays attention to an idea or speak a language any more, it is a dead one.  If all the old parts of a country are now parts of other countries, then it is a dead country.  If your body is no longer in use then it is dead.  And if you no longer lust for life and are indifferent to what goes on, then you spiritually dead or dying.

To be alive is to produce order from chaos... or at least to beat back its encroachment.  If you learn things every day, if you yearn for tomorrow and all the thigns it can bring, if you seek to master and improve yourself, then you are as alive as you can be.

So you can see we can't answer that question for the impersonal 'we'.  Some people are dying in a number of ways.  And some are living more each day.  It is a personal thing.

  9. Living....

    your still breathing

  10. Death and loss are illusions. We are not our bodies.

Forgiveness eliminates all loss and pain.

  11. we r surviving

  12. Either you live or die. Both cant go together.

  13. I understand your question...I think it depends on the person in question.

    I'm totally living!

  14. We're living. We aren't dying until we can put a time limit on when we're most likely to die. An exact one. Not just I'm healthy, bla bla bla. I might die when I am... 74! But if you have cancer that can not be cured or if you've been hit by a car and are about to die - then you're dying.

  15. No, you aren't just being weird. I heard someone say once that humanity is dying to live and living to die. It didn't make a lot of sense to me, but it stuck with me. I got to thinking about it, much later, and the more I pondered, the more it made sense.

Humans live...fast, hard and fearing death. We spend all our time, all our resources, trying to gather the "things" that make our life worth living, and trying to keep ourselves young and alive. We fear death so much that we forget to live, to appreciate what we have, not the "things" we own, but the love and friendship, the beauty, the mystery of life, that surrounds us.

<shrug> humans really do die to live and live to die.....odd, isn't it?
