are we turning into a world where propaganda and tv influence people so much, and we don't care about each other anymore and we don't have a sense of culture anymore and are just following this new type of society of just getting drunk and having s*x and not caring about learning and stuff, is this all because of the way america and it's stars portray itself and we all want to be like them?

  1. No we can never lose social norms and values, they only change over time and are reproduced by parents, media etc.  Also culture is very interesting because there is an argument that culture can be defined in a number of ways.  For example TV can be argued is the new religion as it does the same for individuals in modern society as religion did for people many years ago.  Marx said religion is an opium for the masses which means it was used as a social control.    Also sport, alcohol and any other popular activity can count as being the new opium for the people.

Although society has changed over time, this is not a new phenomena as it has happened since time began.  Modernisation changed the world massively from the old feudalism era.  And no doubt new social norms and values will form in the future as well as new influences and opinions.

  2. this has always been in a state of flux. the older and wiser you get, the easier it is to spot. that's why most marketers target young people.

  3. yes, all over the world

  4. It may seem so, but things are just changing, that's all.  For example, we used to be really horrible to children, smacking them, not listening to them, making them follow their parents' ambitions instead of their own dreams.  Women used to have a far worse life than now. We are more tolerant of each other now.  However, in other ways behaviour has become worse, as you rightly observe, it's swings and roundabouts, not worse, just different.

  5. yes we are

  6. Are we??!!! We've been losing them for several decades now!! People are more and more inconsiderate, selfish, rude, and greedy than ever before and it is only getting worse. Kids now are so rude and spoiled and because of these protection agencies going overboard, we can't even spank them when they are being bad, making them worse. I am glad I will be dead when this next generation gets to be my age. It scares me!! Good question!!

  7. Yes, it's a precursor to the End of Days.

  8. the values of society are just changing. so, we're not losing social norms, we're just aquiring new ones.

if, for instance, once upon a time it was worth something to study and to be honest, nowadays what is appreciated by people is earning lots of money (no matter how) and buying everything (also drugs, people etc). the social norm has become "be rich and don't care".

it's a depressing society, but it has its rules. if it hadn't any rule, it wouldn't be a society!

  9. within the modern british society norms and values are for ever changing this is due to many factors within society mainly i believe becauses the more relaxed onlook on certain issues and topics people optain it has become more socially acceptable to drink and smoke or be g*y whereas years gone by this would be looked at in a very different angle thhe main argument is for what reason have we as a society adopted these modern norms and values maybe schooling the increase of social problems the church numbers falling who knows

  10. no we still preserve our social cultural values we still have a british culture where its socieities differ. we r different to obese lousy americans. u r describin them. tv has influence on our everyday life therefore media is a big part of our culture.however the new generation does get drunk and have free s*x we are more independent in our lifes and there are no more rules and social control. xx haha

  11. Yup we sure are..I blame global warming

  12. Britain has done this to itself,no discipline in the home,pc interference, lack of discipline in schools, lack of punishment, weak government and judges/magistrates,letting criminals out early, who reoffend straight away, toothless and dejected police forces ,who catch villains and watch the law let them go.Legal victimisation of crime victims by awarding compensation to criminals and giving free holidays to young offenders---need i go on 'IT HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH AMERICA,YOU CAN NEVER BLAME OTHERS FOR WHAT YOU DO.

  13. It is nothing to do with America. It is a human thing, to go along with the lowest common denominator. That is seen to be cool, and easier. What is required is principles, and the balls to defend them. Here in the UK, we do it eventually, but it takes a war or some other catastrophe. The spineless wasters we see in the media (not all of whom are polititans) revert to the salt of the Earth when our backs are against the wall. Meawhile Health and Safety and the liberals rule, and out of apathy we let them.

  14. That's a pretty fair conglomeration of everything that is c**p.

  15. i have to agree with you...selfish money grabbers ,in an ,i want it now world

  16. yeah most americans are like that....its because people dont know how GREAT they have it, we live in one the most best cuntrys in the world. so many people take what they have for granted and they dont realize what they have until they compare what they have w/ other countrys, like so many ppl take their education for granted and they dont realize other ppl in other country would kill to have a education a great as theirs....If we all dont start realizing how good we have it soon all amercans we be like that
