Are we not supposed to discuss the candidates' family matters? How hypocritical after Michelle was criticized?

They dragged Michelle's name through the mud and now that the Palin teen pregnancy scandal has come up, the Repubes on YA are suddenly offended that we even discuss Palin's family matters. Ha!!!

I never said anything about Michelle Obamas family life so dont pin point all republicans on here. And anyways Michelle Obama is up making speeches for her husband and on national tv promoting herself and is an ADULT, Sarah Pailins 17 year old daugher is not.

I must have missed that.  What exactly did Republicans say about Obama's family?  I remember reacting to things Michelle Obama said while stumping for her husband but I cannot recall anyone saying anything negative about Obama's children.  If anyone did they were clearly out of line.  

People making up stories about Sarah Palin's son actually being her grandson were the worst kind of political smear.  The fact that her daughter is now pregnant is not a good thing, but that seems to happen quite a lot nowadays.  My son got his wife pregnant before they were married, several women I work with got pregnant before they got married and a good friend of mine has a daughter who gave birth outside of wedlock.

But children who succumb to the pressure to have s*x that our modern society puts on them is not really that remarkable.  I do not hold it against Sarah Palin.  As a parent I can tell you, you can only do your best and teach your children as best you can.  Sometimes they make bad choices and then the family must deal with it.  But you sill love them.

If anyone had discussed Obama's children in this manner, you would have a point.  As it is, you do not.

Mrs PTA Palin is fair game by Republican standards. They did set those standards with Michelle and now they do have to live with that choice. I think as Democrats we would rather talk about the important issues -even debate them . But that certainly has not been the case here on Y/A.

Well, it is a bit hypocritical for so many to claim families are off limits after the barrage of attacks on Mrs. Obama and even her young daughters.  However, that doesn't mean that attacking Palin's daughter is an appropriate thing to do.

It is hypocritical, but Obama is against involving families in all circumstances (not just when it favors one's campaign):

Its just something that is done in defense of their candidates.  Its a natural reaction.  If a candidate is being attacked and you support them you feel the natural sense to need to defend yourself.  Personally, I am not a Republican and I do feel that this issue with Palin's daughter should be ignored.  I say that because there are a lot more important things to talk about rather than a pregnancy.  Sure it involves Palin, but its not a big deal.  She got pregnant, and how is this supposed to show us more about Palin's policies?  Bottom line, this is an irrelevant issue that does nothing to show us whether Palin is ready to be the next VP or not.
