  1. No; Russia correctly assessed that the World will not come to Georgia's aid.

What other things are "going on in the general region"?  Nothing I know of.

  2. Well firstly, there's not that much else going on in the Caucuses, so I don't know what "everything else going on in the general region" refers to...

Also, the Russia Georgia conflict is practically ended. There is a cease-fire in place, and as long as Georgia doesn't start attacking S. Ossetya again it should stay in place.

There are so many worse and larger and more important conflicts going on in the world today than this one. And as long as no other countries get involved, it woul hardly be a world war with only two countries...

  4. I'd say it's possible but not likely that it will lead to a much larger conflict in Europe.

It's possible in the event of an attack on US humanitarian forces.  If the US believes the attack was not accidental then it might choose to retaliate and bring the NATO along with it.  It also depends on whether Russia will choose to heed US warnings or continue with its alleged goal of toppling Georgia's government, which the US strongly opposes.

Now a larger conflict may not necessarily lead to World War III, but it will still be devastating for those involved especially if the states at war choose to deploy nuclear weapons, which is very possible.  It might only lead to worldwide conflict if China chooses to involve itself then the entire East Asian region might be dragged into it as well, e.g. Japan and North Korea.

A much dangerous war, in my opinion, will erupt if China chooses to invade Taiwan and the US decides to protect the latter as was agreed upon in a security pact years ago.

  5. We've been on the verge of WWIII, since WWI.

They only stuck WWII in there, since the only

thing they knew about war was Concentration Camp Number Two.

Which is why the people with a sense of survival

built lasers, GPS, and cruise missiles since then,

    rather than more Grease Guns.

  6. The $4 billion Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan pipeline, named for the capitals of Azerbaijan and Georgia and a Turkish province, passes within 100 miles of the South Ossetian capital of Tskhinvali.

Carrying a million barrels a day, the BTC pipeline is separated from the Russian-backed region (which Monday is said to be totally under Russian control) by over 10,000 Georgian soldiers. It has also been buried underground for most of that stretch to prevent attacks by saboteurs.

I don't know about war, but it is about oil.........
