  1. yes!

we surely r pulling down the environment by using ACs........

the more cool air which we receive from ACs the more hot air is received by the environment cz the ACs being kept opened for so long and the inner component of the AC is getting hot the machine inside it is running continually and it also causes GLOBAL WARMING and the earth is getting hotter day by day.......

  2. yes

  3. we are not necessarily POLLUTING the environment, but we are making the ozone hole larger.

this is because air conditions split up the oxygen atoms (O2) in the atmosphere to become just one oxygen element (O)..this is bad as we breathe O2 not O..

this is a very simple way of explaining it..i hope it helps

but dont worry, it is not contributing to destroying the ozone layer in a dramatic way..its just a minor concern

  4. Yes, to some extent.

Cooling something also means heating something else! Did you ever stand next to an AC exhaust? It throws a lot of warm air out, which means heating open air. So you are contributing to "warming"! But this is not a big contributor to global warming really.

The real problem is the over-use of "fossil-fuels" like oil, and coal for burning.

So using a car or bike for a distance where you can walk is more a problem than using AC!

  5. Air conditioners convert warm air inside to cold air by exchanging energy.  They transfer that energy to a coil outside the car or home which heats the air to dissipate that energy.  So an answer to your question would be that they do raise the temperature outside.

An air conditioner that leaks is also sending refrigerant into the atmosphere.  Some refrigerants are pollutants.

  6. yes you are contributing in global warming by running A/c. Try to adjust life is the name of adjustment use A/c less as much you can

  7. yes...we get the electricity from coal burning  power plants...

  8. asfh

  9. Yes, and generally in two ways:

    1. Electricity generation. Air conditioners run on electricity and all methods of electricity generation have environmental consequences. Some (wind, geothermal, hydroelectric) are cleaner than others (coal, oil, nuclear), but they all have an effect.

    2. Manufacture and disposal of AC units. The industrial processes of producing air conditioners are polluting. They use somewhat toxic refrigerants inside them, and these chemicals can leak into the environment if the unit is not properly maintained and disposed of.

  10. Yes to a very large extent , agree with Don on this one.

Although if you use Solar PV electricity panels to run your A/C then the pollution related to power consumption will go out to a large extent.

As of today Air conditioners are bad for environment and huge power hogs so bad for power cuts too.

  11. You must be American we in Btitaian don't know what you are talking about, its quite cool in these caves!

  12. no, by running a/c's we are saving the environment.... because we are indoors watching tv, we are not running around driving big fat suvs... listening to obama speeches about how the white folk is to blame

  13. Absolutely, although not directly unless you are using an older or poorly maintained AC which is leaking ozone depleting toxins into the atmosphere.

Generally AC's  (in Louisiana anyway) are responsible for about 60% - 80% of our electricity bills. This electricity is generated primarily from burning coal, natural gas and /or oil. Granted there are some utilities which have some greener methods, but they are few and far between.

AC's are terribly inefficient and in the future if you are replacing the AC think about using a ground source heat pump. Although more expensive up front, the payoff is very quick.

  14. yes of course,it leads to ozone depletion.and the aftermath of which is global warming.
