  1. if you dont have a passport then yes you do

and you need government issued photo ID

these documents are only valid if your driving to Canada,if flying you need a passport

  2. At this time, you need proof of citizenship and photo I.D., if you're entering by land.  If flying in, you need a passport. Soon, you will need a passport for both...so they're planning.

  3. On June 1, 2009, a new American law known as the Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative (WHTI) will require U.S. citizens 16 years of age or over who re-enter the United States by land and sea to have a passport or other appropriate secure document like a NEXUS card.

Until this date arrives, U.S. citizens 19 years and older who enter the U.S. at land and sea ports of entry from within the Western Hemisphere will need to present government-issued photo ID, such as a driver’s license as proof of identity, along with proof of citizenship, such as a birth certificate or naturalization certificate, or a passport. Children age 18 and under will be able to enter with proof of citizenship. Verbal claims of citizenship and identity alone will not be sufficient to establish identity and citizenship for entry into the United States.

  4. I'm guessing you don't have a passport? It doesn't take long to get one in Canada but I'm not sure how long it takes in the U.S.

  5. Birth certificate or driver's license until June 2009, but definitely to be sure, bring your passport with you.

Call 1800ONTARIO, that's the number I called today to get info on tourism. Call them, and pick tourism info option (don't remember what number this option was).

  6. Passports are the way to go;  Having lost your birth certificate, you can get a certified copy from the county of your birth for minimal $$$.  Just search your birth county on-line and see what's required from the county recorder's office.  I did it in California a couple years ago and it was very easy.

At that point, getting a passport is child's play.  Hint:  look for a passport office that also takes your passport photo; this will save you time and money.  (this will likely be a US Post Office)
