Are we seeing the end of Vijay Singh?

I'm sick to my stomach seeing Vijay's swing fall apart like that at Pebble today. Unlike some marquee players, he still plays the tournaments that gave him a sponsors exemption before he became famous on tour. I admire him a lot.

He's in great shape, but he's not going to get many chances to keep winning tournaments. I wonder if this collapse over five-holes on the back-9 will wreck his confidence in his new swing.

I think he'll miss the cut at Riviera next week (he's never played that well there) and miss the cut in two of the four majors.

Does anyone think his days of winning are over? He hasn't won on the PGA Tour since March! Losing this tournament in a playoff must really hurt.

  1. Well, we have to be realistic about Vijay.  In about 10 days, Vijay turns 45.  And, although golf history is sprinkled with many examples of players winning past that age, you'd be hard-pressed to find an example of any pro golfer remaining an elite guy...a top three guy, for example, into their mid and late 40's.

I think Vijay definitely has one, two or three more victories in him.  But he will no longer be as consistent as he was in that marvelous run of 2002-2005.

Hopefully, Vijay will win one more major before he's through.  For the record, Julius Boros holds the record as the oldest golfer to win a major.  He was 48 when he won the 1968 PGA Championship.

  2. I think that Vijay will still be competitive.  He loves golf, and I think there are courses that will better fit his style.  I think he'll be around the leaderboard for quite awhile...but I agree with you in that I think his best days are behind him.

  3. I like Vijay too.  This is the 1st time he put his "new swing" under heavy tournament winning pressure on the 18th hole.  It took Tiger a long time after he's grooved in his new swing and played well with it to completely trust it under real pressure.  Give Vijay a bit more time to obtain that trust.

  4. Yeah, I think you're going slightly overboard. He did birdie 18, and had a great up and down in the playoff.  I wouldn't see this tourney having any negative effect on his future.  These guys have won and lost many times over.-except Tiger of course.  If they couldnt handle such things, they would have never made as far as they have.

  5. Relax, he will win again. He is physically in great shape and while the new swing let him down, remember that he knows how to win.  His biggest nemesis is, was, and always will be his putting.

  6. give him a break hes 40 something just becuase he lost a playoff doesnt mean he wont win again even though he shot +3 on the back doesnt mean he fell apart he just had some bad holes and the par he had in the playoff was ugly but the other guy Lawrey or whatever still made birdie so tip ur hat to him

  7. He will continue to compete at a high level.  Will he will anymore majors?  Who knows?  With his work ethic and skill set it is possible, though i doubt he will play at the level he did when he reached #1 in the world.

  8. Yes we are he needs to take it easy or take a leave of absence because he looks stressed
